Workplace safety and health training in Cyprus

Section 13(2)(c) of Cyprus’s Safety and Health at Work Law requires employers to provide safety information, instructions, training and supervision from the first working day, in a language or form the employee understands. Training is provided without charging the employee and with full pay. The detailed linked consolidation is unofficial; its amendments were checked against official sources through 2026.

Questions about documenting safety instruction

Short answers for HSE managers, contractors and labour providers.

What does a sciilo record contain?

It links a worker to the specific instruction revision and language, the in-person session, the instructor and the comprehension check result. It also records further explanation or retests where needed. The record is finalised after instructor confirmation, is integrity-protected and can be retrieved later. Unsuccessful and incomplete outcomes remain visible.

Does sciilo replace in-person safety instruction?

No. The instructor explains the specific instructions and requirements face to face. This may be part of a toolbox talk, site induction or another workplace session. sciilo documents what happened; it does not replace instruction, training or any other employer duty.

How is comprehension checked in the participant’s language?

Each participant answers short questions in their language on a shared phone or tablet. sciilo records the check result. If a check is unsuccessful, the instructor can explain again and record a retest. Passed, needs-explanation, incomplete, absent and unable-to-complete outcomes stay distinct; confirming the session does not turn an unsuccessful check into a passed result.

Which languages are supported?

Your organisation manages the safety instruction content, revisions and language versions. sciilo records who reviewed each published translation; this does not certify its quality or legal accuracy. The product interface launches in English and Ukrainian.

What happens when there is no mobile signal on site?

Print the session pack, explain the instructions in person and complete the paper records, then scan and upload the pages. This is a paper capture fallback; automatic digital offline recording and synchronisation are not available.

Can an auditor or a client verify a record?

Yes. A finalised record can be verified through an opaque token without exposing a worker’s personal information. Authorised users in your organisation can retrieve the full record for follow-up or external review. Verification does not certify legal compliance or prove a worker’s knowledge beyond the recorded check result.

The explanation stays face to face.

sciilo documents specific safety instructions, who took part and the result of each comprehension check. The instructor remains responsible for the explanation, and employer duties still apply.
